2c — Wavy-Curly Border

Deep waves that spiral into actual ringlets in some sections — usually the face frame, nape, or ends. Dual pattern is the signature.

What 2c usually looks like

  • Mixed waves and curls on the same head
  • Looser at the root, curlier toward the ends
  • Volume-sensitive — weighs down with too much product
  • Shrinks 10–25% from wet to dry

Daily routine

  1. Sulfate-free shampoo 1–3× a week.
  2. Conditioner every wash, finger-detangle while in.
  3. On damp hair: light leave-in, light gel or mousse.
  4. Apply slightly more product to the curlier sections, less to wavier ones.
  5. Plop briefly (under 10 minutes) or diffuse on low.

What to look for

2c is the one curl type where less product almost always wins.

Water-based light leave-in

Water as first ingredient, no silicones, optional glycerin
Curl creams, butter-heavy products, anything labeled 'intense'

Light gel or mousse

Soft hold, clean cast that breaks easily
Extreme-hold gels or mousses with drying alcohols

Common 2c mistakes

  • 01Treating 2c as 'curly hair' and piling on 3a+ products — flattens the wavy sections.
  • 02Raking product through — breaks the ringlet sections into wavy ones.
  • 03Not adjusting product amount between wavy and curly sections.
